LBS are the proud owners of Welsh Slate Ltd which comprises of the 3 largest remaining slate quarries in North Wales which include the:
● Penrhyn Quarry (home of the 'Bangor Blue®')
● Ffestiniog quarry (home of the 'Porthmadog slate')
● Cwt-y-Bugail Quarry
Welsh Slate currently employs over 200 people and slates from these famous quarries are universally recognized as the best quality slate found anywhere in the world. We export our slates to places as far away as Australia and New Zealand and our slates cover some of the world's finest and most prestigious buildings.
Our headquarters in the Penrhyn quarry opened commercially in the 1780s but has been producing slates since as far back as the 13th century. Ireland has always been a natural destination for Bangor Blue® slates which have roofed much of the Irish landscape for the last 600 years. The fact that many of these roofs are still intact after hundreds of years is a testament to the slate's exceptional durability and quality.
Our quarries in Wales produce a diverse range of colours which include purple, blue, grey and red. They have a lifespan measured in centuries, not decades, and are the benchmark against which all other roofing materials are measured.
