Brazilian Slate – Rio Green

Rio Green Brazilian Slate, Hook FixedOriginating from the beautiful Minas Gerais region of Brazil, our Brazilian Rio Grey/Green Slate is probably the most popular Brazilian Slate that we offer.

Featuring a gorgeous light grey/green colour, this slate is renowned for its durability. Made with flat, clean surfaces, it’s also relatively easy to use and work with. Beautiful natural tone variations add to this slate’s individuality, and make it an ideal choice to add character to almost any building.

Popular with contractors, LBS’s Brazilian Rio Slate is consistently produced in thicknesses of 5-7mm, meaning little sorting and grading time is needed. Available in sizes of 50 x 25cm (500 x 250mm) and 60 x 30cm (600 x 300mm) in prime grade, this superior slate is perfect for many roofing projects.

Our Brazilian slate is geologically different to most other slates available, as it is sedimentary stone, not metamorphic stone. This difference is clear in its properties, as Rio Slate is extremely hard and dense. Thus, it requires extra care when being fixed to a roof. LBS recommends cutting Rio slate with a disc machine, and then hook fixing them into place, rather than nail fixing.
