It was at the Belfast Self-Build Show in February 2015 that Yvonne called to the LBS stand. Both her and her husband were in the early stages of building a new home by the shore near Islandmagee. Yvonne had a clear idea in her mind of the high spec finish she wanted on her house, and was keen to play an active role in researching and sourcing the materials for her home. She wanted a traditional cottage style home with a full natural stone exterior. Her architect recommended that she call to see us and have a look at the new Penrhyn ‘Bangor Blue’ Z-Stone Wall Cladding. Yvonne loved the ‘heather blue’ colour instantly, and arranged a follow up visit to our Lisburn office to discuss the project further.
From the outset of the build Yvonne was determined to use a traditional and locally sourced material for the exterior of her home. Having looked at using traditional Welsh Slate walling she decided that it wasn’t for her, and that using it would mean having to scale back plans for the interior of her home: something that she was adamant that she did not want to do. The difficulty for the couple at this stage was achieving the finish that they wanted without eating into the overall budget for the build. The Bangor Blue Z-Stone panel offered the perfect compromise. It allowed the couple to create the natural stone finish they aspired to, it was quick to install, and saved them some money at the same time.
Looking at photos of the finished build, it blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, and you could be mistaken for thinking that the house has been standing there for a much longer time. It cuts an imposing figure, yet not one that jars with its surroundings. Yvonne is more than happy with the finished build and it has ticked all the boxes for the couple, its beautiful, unique and cost effective. It has allowed the couple to make their dream of a traditional stone clad home a reality.
Bangor Blue Z Stone is supplied exclusively by LBS in a Sky Panel format and is the only panel to have inbuilt clips. These fixings ensure that there is no time lost fitting separate wall brackets and dowels. Contractors and specifiers are increasingly looking at Penrhyn Z Stone as a unique and eye catching alternative to traditional walling on residential sites, self builds and commercial public sector projects.
